In August 2008, the erstwhile combined state of Andhra Pradesh established the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) by enacting G.O.Ms.No.570 MA & UD (11) Dept. There are 7,257 square kilometres under the jurisdiction of this organization. There are seven districts, 70 mandals, and 1,032 villages under the purview of the HMDA. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation comprises 175 villages and 40 municipalities, and Nagar Panchayats encompass 138 villages. The remaining 719 villages are also under the jurisdiction of HMDA.


The primary mission of HMDA is to plan, coordinate, supervise, promote, and ensure the organized development of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region. A central coordination body for development activities involving municipal corporations, municipalities, local authorities, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board, Telangana Transmission Corporation, Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, and other stakeholders, it coordinates development activities

Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is responsible for developing the
Hyderabad Metropolitan Region using the HMDA layout.

infrastructure, such as drainage, water supply, electricity, and security.
